B. Mitchell Carlson
B. Mitchell Carlson
Auction Analyst

B. Mitchell Carlson grew up in rural Minnesota where he developed an early interest in trucks, school busses and tractors. His automotive interests were further refined while a member of the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Minot AFB, North Dakota & Sembach A.B., West Germany. He has been an auction correspondent for Old Cars Weekly since 1990, and is on the National Price Advisory Board for Old Cars Price Guide. He is also a pricing consultant to Kelly Blue Book, in addition to having regular columns about International trucks for Vintage Truck and Red Power magazines. He is a lifetime bachelor, but says he "would make a decent catch for a rich beautiful woman who could afford me."

The scope of the expertise he brings to SCM can be appreciated through his own collection of cars, currently standing at a baker’s dozen (the vast majority of which actually run). They range from a 1939 Packard Eight sedan, a 1942 Ford GPW, three International trucks (1939 & 1947 pickups plus a 1967 Scout V8), A 1962 Corvair Monza convertible (his first solo restoration; think of it as a first child), the "Gray Egila" 1965 Corvair Corsa 2 door HT, a 1970 BMW 2800 CS, a 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V Diamond Jubilee Edition, a modified 1991 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser station wagon, and a 2000 Whizzer motorbike. This doesn’t include a couple of deceased Corvair Greenbrier vans, which "make lovely parts cars and chicken coupes" out at his storage facility in North Dakota.
