Kathleen Donahue
Copy Editor

While most of SCM‘s writers and editors grew up dreaming of Shelbys Mustangs or Ferraris, the prancing horses of Kathleen Karapondo’s youth had legs instead of wheels. Kathy is the first to admit she’s not the go-to gal for such details as Jano designed Alfas, but if you’re playing Trivial Pursuit and the category is Literature, you definitely want her on your team. Since joining Keith and the gang at SCM ,in 2003, Kathy’s learned more about cars than she probably wanted to (like how to pronounce Mille Miglia), and continues to be fascinated by what makes gearheads tick. She also gets a kick out of sneaking the occasional literary homage onto the pages of SCM magazine, some of which have nothing to do with cars. Kathy comes to us by way of the Ohio University School of Journalism, and has written for publications as varied as Stars and Stripes, Century Mark Historic Record, and The Cincinnati Post. She’s also taught creative writing to truculent middle schoolers, and regularly teaches Art Literacy at the elementary level. She resides in Portland, Oregon with her three sons, Nate, Gabe, and Ross. Her first car was a 1967 Green Volkswagen (named Helmut); she now drives a Chrysler Grand Voyager named Starblaster (don’t ask), and lives for the day when Jaguar finally comes out with a mini-van.
