I’m taking a break from the sports car world and have joined our local Pacific Coast Rover Club for a five-day off-road camping trip. I’ll be out of cellphone and internet reach until July 5. (How will I stand not being able to text or post?)
We’re driving the trusty 1989 Range Rover Classic, which is just back from a “freshening” at Ship’s Mechanical: engine and transfer case oil changed, 12-volt outlet installed in the rear for the electric cooler we’re trying out.
Team SCM consists of me, Wendie, Bradley (it's his first camping trip) and the two dogs, Enzo and Teddy – plus good friend and SCM SEO specialist Michael Cottam and his son Benjamin, driving our 1984 RHD D90 200 Tdi.
From Prineville, OR, we work our way through the wilderness area, stopping at fire lookouts along the way. Our final destination is Ritter Hot Springs with its Olympic-sized hot spring-fed pool.
I’m sure I’ll find something that reminds me of Pebble Beach along the way, but probably not the lodging or the motorized conveyances on the trail.
