“For 40 years this auction has been an integral experience for car lovers and consistently delivered some of the best automobile collections out there,” said Richard Sevenoaks, president of Leake Auction Company. “This year is no different, as we have an excellent selection of classics, customs and an unbelievable assortment of high-performance vehicles. It is remarkable that Mr. Leake had the vision 40 years ago to start a company in an industry that has gained the popularity that car collecting has. In 2010, collector car auctions exceeded one billion dollars in sales. We anticipate 2012 to be a strong year as well.” Mr. Leake made national headlines during a trip to London in 1966, when he purchased a 1911 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost that had once belonged to the Maharaja of Mysore. He paid $27,000 for the car, making it the most expensive car ever purchased in an auction at that time. His love of car auctions really began in 1964 when he held a one-day car auction. The cars were from his personal collection and were sold at the request of his wife Marjory. Due to its smashing success, Leake began one of the first collector car auction companies in the United States. The first consecutive annual sale was held in Arlington, Texas in 1972. Under the leadership of Richard and Nancy (Leake) Sevenoaks, the company expanded auctions to include Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Dallas and San Antonio. Feature cars include: Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and military personnel with an ID and $7 for children under 12. Doors open at 9am daily. Leake Auction Company will celebrate 40 years of car auction excellence when they kick off their Oklahoma City auction, February 17-18 in the Cox Pavilion at the OKC Fairgrounds. This year’s event will feature more than 400 cars including Cadillacs, Corvettes, Camaros, Shelbys, Thunderbirds, and other vintage, collector, muscle and specialty cars. More than 5,000 car buyers, sellers and enthusiasts are expected to attend the milestone event.
