Price as Tested $27,215: 2.0-L 140-hp I4, TDI clean diesel engine, 6-speed DSG automatic transmission, Premium Features, Driver Care Package

A nice overall package with real-life practicality and user-friendliness, including the price. Decent performance for a diesel. Steering and brakes are smooth and trouble-free. You won’t be getting “oohs” and “ahhs” when parking in front of a crowd due to its homogenized exterior styling, but you’ll know you arrived comfortably with a spacious interior. The Fender premium sound system is pleasing to the ears, especially while sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Considering the price point, there’s not much to dislike. I could complain about the abundance of interior plastic, which adds to the low-budget feel, but it’s expected at the price.

A very decent car for a very decent price, with nice features that make for a pleasant, usable everyday driver: push-button start, excellent fuel mileage, great entertainment system, ample room for four and best-in-class trunk space. VW even throws in no-charge scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles, which includes oil and filter changes, tire rotation, etc.
