*Monterey, CA* Russo and Steele’s “Sports and Muscle in Monterey collector automobile auction has announced the addition of a very rare and historic 1922 Duesenberg “A Model” race car. The car will be sold at their August 18th and 19th sale at NO RESERVE.

The car began life as a four-door Duesenberg Phaeton, and was rebuilt as a full racecar by the Duesenberg Brothers race shop in Indianapolis, Indiana. It contested major races in Argentina and surrounding South American countries for most of its career.

It also contested the Indianapolis 500 in 1932, where it was driven by Billy Winn to 9th place.

A Duesenberg 8-cylinder “A Model” engine that produces over 200 horsepower powers it. Additional features include hydraulic brakes, 3-speed transmission, dual Winfield carburetors, and complete and fully functioning lights.

Since the Duesenberg Brothers race shop built cars individually, this car is truly a one-of-a-kind. The chassis features all-riveted cross members and original Hudson rails. The bodywork was also hand crafted in the Duesenberg Brothers race shop.

The car is eligible for many vintage racing venues, including the Monterey Historic Automobile Races and the California Mille. It has recently completed several international vintage rallies.
