Bonhams’ long and successful record of selling prestige Porsche cars at auction is set to be even further enhanced by its having been to selected to offer a most significant competition Porsche Carrera 906E at its Scottsdale Sale in January.

Offered for sale from a prominent private collection, this Sale star is the ex-Works, ex-Otto Zipper/Scooter Patrick, USRRC 2-liter Championship-winning 1967 Porsche Carrera 906E Einspritzrung ‘Long Nose, Short Tail’ Endurance Racing Coupe.

With the unique distinction of being a factory team car – and therefore Porsche’s absolute finest in period – this 906E is one of the last four ‘Carrera 6’ models to have been manufactured that season. It made its racing debut as a ‘Porsche System Engineering’ Works team entry in the  1967 Sebring 12-Hours, co-driven by Americans Joe Buzzetta and Peter Gregg. The car later went on to tie for first place in the United States Road Racing Championship with driver Scooter Patrick.

“This Porsche never let me down as long as I took care of it, it always finished. I think the most memorable race was in the 1967 USRRC series at Laguna Seca. That round was entitled the ‘Ken Miles Memorial Race.’ I was determined that this was going to be my race as Ken was a mentor to me and the reason I had the ride with Otto Zipper for 12 years. I won that race and lapped everyone but 2nd and 3rd place. A lot of great memories in this car!”                                                 – Scooter Patrick, December 2011

This ex-Works, ex-Scooter Patrick Porsche 906E has since been restored to an extremely high standard, representing its 1967 Championship specification, and it retains all the features which made it so special in that era, including its rare Bosch mechanical fuel-injected, 2.0-liter 6-cylinder, twin-plug motor.

In the specialized category of historic racing, former factory team cars are the most rare, and the most sought-after.  They represent the pinnacle of contemporary research and development, which makes this successful ex-Works racing Porsche an offering of such significance.

The Bonhams Scottsdale Sale will take place at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in the heart of sunny Scottsdale (near Phoenix), Arizona, on Thursday, January 19th.  To register to bid, remotely or in person, order a catalog, or learn more about this and other consignments – such as two Rolls-Royce motor cars previously owned by legends Marlene Dietrich and Andy Warhol – visit bonhams.com/usa/cars/.
