The much-anticipated 1970 Porsche 911S owned by Steve McQueen — and his ride during the opening minutes of the classic car film “Le Mans” — raced to a stunning $1,250,000 hammer price at RM’s Friday night Monterey auction, proving that the McQueen Cool factor remains stronger than ever. Other big-money highlights from Friday night auction included the one-of-one 1952 Chrysler D’Elegance, which sold at $860,000 and the rumbling 1969 Chevrolet BFG “Stars & Stripes” L88 “ZL-1” Greenwood Racing Corvette, which sold at $580,000.

Watch for the full results in the coming days, along with more highlights and the rest of the numbers from Monterey car week.
