Charles “Chuck” Swimmer, a passionate car collector and founder of The San Diego Collection — a top-notch automotive showroom — died on December 17, 2013.

He was 72.

Swimmer, a prominent businessman in San Diego, CA, was very active in the collector-car world, and he served on the board of the CHP-99 Foundation, which provides support for the widows and children of slain California Highway Patrol officers.

Swimmer was born in Canton, OH and educated at Miami University in Oxford, OH. He founded his award-winning company, Charco Construction, in 1966. Charco became the top home remodeling company in the San Diego area, and Swimmer was known for his strong ethics and honesty.

“Last time I saw Chuck was at Keels and Wheels, where he had typically magnificent cars to share with everyone who came to the show. Over the years I knew him, he always had a big smile on his face, and made every event better by his presence,” remarked Publisher Martin.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol Swimmer, daughters Rachael Flores and Lisa Neichin and his grandchildren.

Services were held at Temple Beth Israel on December 20.
