Lamborghini has announced a new 199mph version of the Gallardo to celebrate the manufacturer’s links with watch-maker extraordinaire, Blancpain.

Set apart by its vast rear spoiler and engine cover designed for maximum ventilation, the latest Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition is powered by a 562bhp V10 engine good for 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds and comes with the marque’s all-wheel-drive system.

Marking the success of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo racing series, the new car is nevertheless claimed to offer “one hundred per cent road-going usability”.

It is equipped with Skorpius wheels with yellow-painted brake callipers and carbon-ceramic brake discs. Externally, the car has matt black paintwork designed to complement the carbon-fibre used to make the mirror casings and front air diffuser.

The entire interior is finished in black Alcantara with yellow accents and more carbon fibre, along with the Blancpain logo, in yellow stitching.

“In just its second year, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo has established itself in the premier league of gentleman’s racing,” said Stephan Winkelmann, president and CEO of Automobil Lamborghini. “Each race is a battle of dedication and passion for every single hundredth of a second – something that characterises our brands. Lamborghini is extremely happy about its cooperation with Blancpain.”

Blancpain – also official timekeeper for the FIA GTI World Championship – has been producing timepieces in Switzerland since 1735. Each one is assembled by one single watchmaker, reflecting, says Lamborghini, the “quality and individual attention” that goes into its cars.
