(Tacoma, WA) – LeMay Museum President & CEO, David L. Madeira, notified City officials that the Museum is exercising its option on the land designated for the Museum’s future home in Tacoma. The action follows the Board’s approval of the Museum’s campus development plan which Madeira announced at a reception following its board meeting at the General Motors Heritage Center held on June 1, 2007. The reception drew nearly 150 people from auto-related industries and automotive media. Attendees were welcomed by Museum board member and GM Vice President of Global Design, Ed Welburn, who termed the Museum “The most significant automotive museum project for the 21st Century.”

The exercise of the option, said Madeira, “Marks a significant milestone in the Museum’s progress and sets the stage for an anticipated ground-breaking in late 2007 or early 2008 and Museum opening in 2009.” The LeMay Museum
