MARENGO, ILLINOIS – Mecum Auctions is excited to announce an amazing lineup of more than 1,750 collector cars offered to enthusiasts at the 23rd annual Dana Mecum Original Spring Classic Auction, May 19-23, 2010, in Indianapolis, Ind.

“From Le Mans-winning Corvettes to rare muscle cars, the quality and variety of collectible vehicles at our upcoming Original Spring Classic Auction is incredible,” said President Dana Mecum. “We have experienced tremendous response and growth to our flagship spring event over the years, and we are excited to give enthusiasts a chance to add a new favorite automobile to their collections.”

Included in the vehicle lineup is a pair of 2003 Chevrolet Corvette C5-R race cars. Two of only 11 C5-Rs built, the C5-R #50 chassis 8 car and the C5-R #53 chassis 9 car each raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans that year, placing second and third. Continuing the cars’ motorsports heritage, the #53 vehicle was driven and wrecked by Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a practice lap at Infineon Raceway in 2004.

Mecum will also offer the first Corvette to be raced by legendary driver Bob Johnson – a 1966 big block known as “the 8 ball car,” which has been featured in several automotive magazines over the years.
