MONTE CARLO, MONACO (June 1, 2009) – In September 2009, the Yacht Club de Monaco will celebrate the Centenary of Tuiga, the classic 15-Metre IR class yacht that has been the Club’s proud flagship since 1995.

Bought by Prince Albert II for the Yacht Club de Monaco, Tuiga’s first owner was the Duke of Medinacelli, a close friend of Alphonse XIII, King of Spain. William Fife designed Tuiga as a copy of the Spanish royal yacht Hispania, to race against her.

The Centenary celebration, to be held Saturday, September 19th 2009, will recreate the atmosphere of 1909 and the Yacht Club de Monaco is seeking owners of 1909 automobiles to showcase their vehicles in period attire during the celebrations of Monaco Classic Week (September 16–20)

Under the presidency of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the Yacht Club de Monaco has been organizing the Monaco Classic Week since 1994 and it has become the point of reference for traditional yacht meetings. Even today it is still the only event to embrace traditional sailings yachts, classic motor yachts and vintage motorboats in a single port.

Owners with 1909 automobiles interested in participating in the Centenary event should contact Timothy McGrane of Events International Company at [email protected] or call 818.706.3814, or you can contact Ms. Isabelle Andrieux at Yacht Club de Monaco at [email protected] or call +377.93.10.64.09.
