HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (November 6, 2005) – The premier winners, the coveted ‘Best of Show’ and the ‘People’s Choice’ awards were chosen today for the prestigious Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance classic and collector car competition, held here under beautiful blue skies at the historic Honey Horn show grounds on Hilton Head.

Best of Show was awarded to John and Dora McMullen of Lapeer, Michigan for their 1911 Thomas Flyabout. People’s Choice was awarded to Robert and Brigitte Thayer of Atlanta, Georgia for their 1930 Packard 745 Roadster. The Packard was the honored marque of this year’s Concours.

More than 400 vintage automobiles made their way to Hilton Head Island, SC this weekend to participate in the 4th annual Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance. Esteemed racecar driver and Indy 500 champ Bobby Rahal presided as the event’s Honorary Chairman.

Carolyn Vanagel, Executive Director for the Hilton Head Island Concours today remarked, “We are very pleased with the turnout for the event this year. We think it was a tremendous success and there was a lot of excitement on the show field. Vanagel stated that the combination of local entertainment, the presence of Honorary Chairman Bobby Rahal, the introduction of Vintage Track Day at Roebling Road Raceway and the Classic & Collector Car Auction all boosted this year’s success. “Just wait until you see us next year for our fifth anniversary,” said Vanagel.

Positioned as the ‘final’ Concours of the national show circuit, the Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance has quickly climbed the ranks among national Concours events. In just four short years, Hilton Head is already considered by many as being among those elite USA events with the likes of Pebble Beach, Meadow Brook and Amelia Island.

The Hilton Head Concours is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to educate the public about automotive preservation, to support the local economy and to donate proceeds to local charitable organizations. Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance – This year’s fourth annual event took place on Hilton Head Island, SC November 3-6, 2005 at the Coastal Discovery Museum’s historic Honey Horn show grounds. This year’s honorary chairman, Bobby Rahal, popular Indy 500 Champ racecar driver/owner, presided and signed autographs on Thursday and Saturday. Over 400 vintage cars were showcased during the entire weekend of festivities, featuring the Concours d’ Elegance – Best in Show competition on Sunday. This year’s Honored Marque was the legendary Packard. Saturday’s activities included a celebration of the Ford Thunderbird’s 50th anniversary, a Car Jamboree of local car clubs, an “original” stock car special exhibit, performances by local Hilton Head music groups and exhibitor driving tours through the Low Country. In addition, this year the event was expanded to include the new Vintage Track Day at Roebling Road Raceway on Thursday November 3rd and the new Classic & Collector Car Auction on Saturday, sponsored by Potts Auction Company.
