1963 Corvette Grand Sport roadster

Perhaps the rarest of all Corvettes, this Grand Sport was offered at RM’s Phoenix auction, but was unsold. The car is still available; just think how impressed everyone at the next Corvette Show And Shine would be if you drove up in it.

Envisioned by the legendary Zora Arkus-Duntov, these top secret, hand-built race cars were designed to win at FIA endurance races and ultimately the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Only five were built out of an expected 120 car run before General Motors canceled its competition activities in early 1964. Miraculously, each of the prototypes escaped destruction orders, falling into the hands of private racers.

Previously owned by Roger Penske and George Wintersteen, s/n 002 is one of just two Grand Sport roadsters produced out of the original five prototypes. Restored by Jim Jaeger in 1990 to 1966 USRRC configuration, it features both its original and a reproduction body, and is fitted with a 427-ci big-block, accompanied by a vintage race-prepped aluminum 377-ci engine.

Sources indicate that the car is probably worth in the
range of $6m. For more information, contact Mike Fairbairn at [email protected]
