Worldwide Auctioneers is reporting its most successful event to date at home in Auburn, recording overall sales of  $13.2 million at its 4th annual The Auburn Auction, along with record attendance. There was standing room only in a packed auction arena during the event’s highlight, Saturday evening’s catalogue auction, The Main Event, when a remarkable selection of hand-picked motorcars went under the hammer. Among the many notable sales was a rare and magnificent 1955 Hudson Italia GT Coupe, selling for $352,000, an elegant 1930 Cadillac V16 Fleetwood Convertible Coupe which sold for $363,000 and the “First Funny Car”, a  factory experimental 1964 Dodge Charger S/FX that realized $302,500. The most storied barn-find 1948 Delahaye 135M Cabriolet by Chapron, which had lain undiscovered in a Washington barn for 35 years until earlier this year, also sold for a remarkable $247,500. No less than six no reserve private collections were on offer during the weekend, including an extraordinary selection of award winning hot-rods from the Fred Kohl Estate Collection, with one of its highlights, an outstanding 1937 Ford ‘Z-Rod’ Coupe, selling for $198,000.  The complete set of results from The Auburn Auction can be downloaded online at WWGauctions.com

“This was in every respect our most successful event ever in Auburn”, said Rod Egan, Principal & Chief Auctioneer. “Record sales, record attendance and a global audience of bidders, both on-site and over the telephone. The Auburn Auction is as ever, defined by quality, and we set out to present a superior selection of hand- picked motorcars, with wide ranging appeal, in a dynamic, up-market environment. We are delighted to have seen pre-war motorcars, American classics, European sports cars and American muscle cars all selling with equal success to bidders from across North America and as far afield as Russia, Australia and Europe. Auburn is our home town and our aim is to put it right back on the map at the epicenter of the collector car world. As ever, we extend sincere thanks to all of our friends and customers for their ongoing enthusiasm and support, which have once again resulted in another outstanding Labor Day Weekend here in the Classic Car Capital of the World ”.
