Fresh on the heels of its highly successful sale of John Staluppi’s Cars of Dreams Museum earlier this month, RM Auctions is delighted to announce the addition of the respected Don Davis Collection to its growing 2013 calendar of events.  Scheduled April 27 in Fort Worth, Texas, the single-day auction represents the second single-vendor sale confirmed for RM’s 2013 auction schedule, reaffirming the company’s reputation as the specialist for private and estate collection sales.

The Don Davis Collection is the result of numerous decades of dedicated acquisition by lifelong enthusiast and successful businessman, Don Davis. Driven by the ‘thrill of the chase’ and an exceptional eye for quality, honed by years of business in the automotive industry, Davis built the collection by handpicking a diverse assortment of automotive rarities, the best he could find, in a slew of desirable genres. From American horsepower to European sports and GT cars, joined by a selection of unique and unusual finds, such as a 1967 Toyota 2000GT, the group has a truly international flavor and features a number of the world’s most admired marques represented by the most collectible models.  In line with Davis’ astute collecting philosophy, the offering has a strong emphasis on rare, high quality, low production examples, many of which have been recipients of complete body-off, nut-and-bolt restorations, and all of which have been well-maintained by a professional staff.

As Davis prepares to ‘downsize’ the collection in April, more than 50 automobiles from the collection, each impressive in its own right, will be offered ‘without reserve’.

“RM Auctions takes great pride in representing the world’s best automobile collections, and in every case the pervading theme is quality. Every enthusiast we have had the honor of working with has taken it upon themselves to find the finest motor cars, in terms of rarity, condition and specification. The resulting collection thereby not only tells a story of automotive history but also the owner’s dedication to perfection,” says Alain Squindo, Director Private Collections, RM Auctions.

“Don Davis truly has the ‘collector’s collection.’ He’s handpicked the most desirable cars from watershed moments of automotive history, representing the finest in European and American design, engineering and performance, be it a 289 Cobra, Ferrari Daytona or Mercedes-Benz 300SL right up to modern collectibles such as the Porsche 959. We are truly honored to have been selected by Mr. Davis to present his prized collection at auction and look forward to returning to Texas in April,” Squindo adds.

Headlining a long list of collection highlights for the April sale is a superb host of American automobiles, led by a pair of outstanding 289 Cobras as well as a terrific 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Big Tank Coupe. Among other notable American-built collector cars on offer are a 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham, a rare 1958 Dual-Ghia Convertible and a historically significant 1941 Chrysler Newport Dual Cowl Phaeton, the actual pace car of the 1941 Indianapolis 500 race and subsequently owned and driven by Walter P. Chrysler, Jr.  The offering also spans more than 70 years of Ford Motor Company design from a 1932 Ford Three-Window Coupe through to a 2005 Ford GT.

Beyond the American automobiles, European marques are also well represented with a diverse roster of Italian and German motor cars on offer. Ferraristi will be able to select from no less than five examples from the Modenese Prancing Horse, including a 1967 Ferrari 330 GTS and a pair of 365 GTB/4 Daytonas in both open and closed form. The collection also features a stellar line-up of iconic German cars from Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. For Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts, there is a trio of iconic 300SLs: two roadsters and one Gullwing, along with a pair of 280SLs. The Porsche offering runs the gamut of the marque’s history from early 356 models through a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS and culminating with a 1988 Porsche, considered by many to be the ultimate supercar.

The Don Davis Collection joins an exciting docket of events on RM’s global 2013 schedule, including the renowned Bruce Weiner Microcar Museum Collection, February 15-16 in Madison, Georgia. For further information on the April auction, visit rmauctions.com.
