SCM Editor at Large Donald Osborne returns to TV with a regular feature, “Assess and Caress With Donald Osborne” on the new CNBC primetime series, “Jay Leno’s Garage.” This new series of eight hour-long episodes, produced by Original Productions for the network, follows legendary super-enthusiast Leno as he explores “all things automotive including classic cars, super cars, restoration projects, road tests, investments and the inner workings of the car collectors’ market.”

The last two are obviously very much the province of Osborne, an Accredited Senior Appraiser of the American Society of Appraisers and long-time SCM contributor. In each episode he chooses three cars and discusses their market values past, present and future with Leno and shares what makes them appeal to enthusiasts and the market. Jay and Donald have a very good time sharing their passion for cars great, quirky, iconic and unknown — and also bring real information and education along with the entertainment.

Of course any show with Jay Leno includes celebrity appearances. Among the famous enthusiasts featured are Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Tim Allen, Francis Ford Coppola, Jeff Dunham and Jimmie Johnson.

Expect something a little different with this show — an intelligent alternative for serious gearheads.

The show airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CNBC.
