On the eve of the 40th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector Car Auction, SPEED and Barrett-Jackson Auction Company have agreed on a new deal, extending their long-running broadcast partnership through 2014.

“The Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auctions are cornerstones of SPEED’s automotive enthusiast programming,” said SPEED President Hunter Nickell. “Craig Jackson and his team continue to be tremendous partners, and this new deal is the direct result of a truly collaborative effort to find the best ways to deliver these larger-than-life events to our viewers.”

SPEED began broadcasting Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auctions with five hours of live coverage from Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1997; just one year after the network went on the air. In 2011, SPEED will deliver more than 100 hours of live coverage from Barrett-Jackson events in Scottsdale, West Palm Beach, Fla., Las Vegas and Orange County, California, beginning with 40 hours from this year’s 40th Anniversary event in Scottsdale on Jan. 18-23.

“For more than 13 years, we’ve collaborated with SPEED to bring the excitement and energy of the auction block to fans’ living rooms across the country,” explained Craig Jackson, chairman/CEO of Barrett-Jackson.  “Not only were we the first collector car auction to be aired live on a TV network, together we introduced innovative experiences to viewers, such as the timed lot numbers.  We look forward to many more years of success with our friends at SPEED.”

“When we established our relationship with SPEED, car collecting was very different,” added Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson.  “Through our national broadcasts, we’ve been able to bring millions more people into the hobby.   SPEED and Barrett-Jackson have fundamentally changed car collecting by making it a mainstream hobby.”
