March 31, 2008 –Worldwide Auctioneers, auctioneers of fine collector cars, has today announced that it will hold an exclusive catalog auction of significant motorcars at the site of its new Auburn, Indiana headquarters, on Saturday August 30th, 2008, the weekend of the Annual Labor Day Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival.
The company confirmed last week that it will build its headquarters on the 140 acre site just minutes away from the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum, housing its 30,000 square foot glass fronted showroom and providing the venue for its inaugural Auburn auction. In the words of Rod Egan, Managing Partner and Chief Auctioneer; “Making Auburn our new headquarters was a simple conclusion. Creating this exclusive event in Auburn, the birthplace of some of the most magnificent automobiles ever built and of the classic car auction industry itself, just makes sense”.
The catalog based auctions of Worldwide Auctioneers are in marked contrast to the circus-like atmosphere typically seen in Auburn. “Our aim is to cater to the discriminating collector, as opposed to those looking for lower end classics or fixer uppers,” explained John Kruse, Managing Partner of Worldwide Auctioneers. “We will be conducting one sale a year, with no general admission and entries will be limited to 80 exceptional motorcars. Over the years, some of the most important cars in the world were bought and sold here, by people who made the journey to the Auburn Automobile Company in the 1920’s and ‘30’s and in later years, to auction. The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum and annual Festival, each attracting visitors from across the USA and overseas, bear testament to this town’s unique heritage as the classic car capital of the world. It’s a heritage that I, as both a young Auburn native and serious automotive enthusiast, am passionate to hand on to the next generation. I want to bring the important cars and collectors back to Auburn.”
Worldwide Auctioneers will add its Auburn sale to a calendar which also includes the Houston Classic Auction and November Hilton Head Sports and Classic Car auction, in South Carolina. Over 100 vehicles will go under the hammer in Houston on May 3rd this year, with an estimated value of $20 million.
