Nice stance on 17-inch alloys with black details. Far roomier inside than expected. Feels like what I’d expect from a two-door Accord. Gearbox is crisp and smooth. Nice clutch feel — not too stiff, not sloppy. Free-revving i-VTEC 4-cyl barks to life.
Exterior styling rather bland. Yes, it’s spacious inside, but if it were space I wanted, I’d choose another car. The body feels ponderous for a little sports car. The interior styling seems youth-oriented in a superficial way.
This car should have been a lot more fun than the Civic EX sedan—one of my favorite cars of the year so far. But it was only a little more fun. In six months, the only thing I’ll remember about it is the feeling of the perfectly executed 6-speed shifter in my right hand.
