Serious collectors and enthusiasts alike descended on Texas last weekend, as Worldwide Auctioneers presented an outstanding assortment of vintage automobiles at its 4th annual Houston Classic Auction. Held in conjunction with the Keels & Wheels Concours d’Elegance, the six hour sale attracted bidders from across the USA and Europe, as virtually all eras including Brass, Pre-War, European Sports Cars, American muscle and 50’s American convertibles all went under the hammer, realizing great results.

A 1914 Rolls Royce 40/50Hp Silver Ghost Skiff Torpedo attracted the highest bid at $1.072 million, whilst a 1930 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Series IV Grand Sport Zagato Spyder and 1952 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport Villa D’Este Cabriolet sold for $880,000 and $825,000 respectively. Ronald Reagan’s Secret Service 1952 Willy’s Model-M38A1 military Jeep and a 1934 Packard Twelve Model 1107 Club Sedan, formerly the property of the Al Capone syndicate, also found new homes, as did the unique and awesome 1915 Van Blerk 17 Litre Roadster. The superb selection of 50’s American convertibles on offer attracted record bids, including a 1957 Buick Model 70 Roadmaster Convertible, hammered sold at $214,500, as well as a 1958 Oldsmobile J-2 Super 88 Convertible, realizing a whopping $209,000.

The auction saw an impressive 87% of the overall 115 lots successfully selling, at a grand total of nearly $12 million. “The Houston Classic Auction continues to grow in stature, attracting buyers from across the world. This year we sold cars to buyers from California all the way to Florida and several overseas, including Scotland, France, Holland and Great Britain, which certainly reflects upon the superb quality and variety of vehicles offered”, said Rod Egan, Managing Partner and Chief Auctioneer.”We look forward to building upon the success of this auction later in the year, at both our inaugural Auburn sale on Labor Day Weekend and at the Hilton Head Sports & Classic Car Auction in November.”
