Following the smashing success of last year’s inaugural auction, Bonhams is pleased to announce that it’s accepting consignments for its return to the famed Scottsdale Car Week in January.

Hosted once again on the beautiful and spacious grounds of the premier Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona, Bonhams’ auction of important collectors’ cars promises an impressive line-up for international connoisseurs with two very noteworthy machines leading the list of early consignments.

First is a car known as “Le Petite Royale”, the 1930 Bugatti Type 46 Faux Cabriolet with coachwork by Veth & Zoon.  At its debut, The Motor magazine said the Type 46 “combines the luxury of a large limousine, the perfect flexibility and top gear performance of a thoroughbred, with the perfect road holding, speed and acceleration of a sports model.”  Exemplifying the crème de la crème of touring cars, the elegant and sporting Type 46 was among the best of the Molsheim models, and this particular car – the recipient of a painstaking concours-level restoration – is among the very best in existence.

Then, of course, is a car that needs little introduction, a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing Coupe – one of the most universally loved and iconic luxury sports cars ever built.  This too has benefitted from an exhaustive, no-expense-spared restoration and is finished in stunning strawberry with tan interior. With its futuristic design and graceful appearance, the Gullwing belies the fact that it’s a true sports car at heart, engineered for performance. These attributes – superior design and performance – combined with low production numbers and its magnetic appeal, have catapulted Gullwings to the top of the post-War sports car market.

Bonhams is also proud to present a stylish 1931 Cord L-29 Cabriolet. This fine example of Cord’s landmark front-wheel-drive design was a 1957 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Class Winner and is offered direct from long-term private ownership.

Come mid-January, in the warm, wonderful Arizona desert, these stellar automobiles will lead an impressive and diverse roster of motorcars represented by Bonhams. The auction is scheduled for Thursday, the 17th of January at Scottsdale’s Westin Kierland Resort, a pleasant and accessible 20-minute drive from Phoenix.
