Again Bonhams & Goodman has uneratherd an impressive collection of vintage vehicles and highly collectable numberplates for the October Collectors’ Cars & Numberplates auction this Sunday 22 October in Double Bay, Sydney.
Cars to be auctioned include some of the most desirable Mercedes Benz, together with vehicles of ultra low mileage, namely a Mazda RX7 (c53,000km, estimate $8,000-$14,000) and a Porsche 928 (c24,000km, estimate $18,000-$26,000) both from one owner.
A Bentley Continental GT (estimate $260,000-$290,000) will also be auctioned, along with a Holden Monaro CV8 (estimate $30,000-$40,000), previously owned by the family of the late artist, Pro Hart. A beautiful example of the famous Austin-Healey BJ8 (estimate $50,000-$70,000) will also be offered this Sunday, as will the ever popular Corvette C4 Coupe (estimate $40,000-$50,000) and a limited edition BSA Goldstar motorcycle (estimate $16,000-$22,000).
The highlight of the sale is arguably a c1955 Mercedes-Benz 300S.L ‘Gullwing’ (estimate $480,000-$550,000). This superb original example of the most famous marque in history was a gift from Mercedes-Benz to the Shah of Iran, who gave it to his wife Princess Soraya. The current owner, a retired Sydney gentleman is the third owner since it was acquired from the Iranian royal family in 1959 by the Shah’s English surgeon. Over the last six years the car has been meticulously restored to original colour scheme and condition without consideration of cost. Australian enthusiasts will have the opportunity to acquire this internationally exceptional motor car for considerably less than landed cost from overseas for a comparable car if such a car could be found.
The auction will take place at Bonhams & Goodman’s Sydney rooms at 7 Anderson Street, Double Bay NSW on Sunday 22 October 2006.
Viewing will commence on Friday 20 October from 10:00am – 5:00pm
Saturday from 10:00am – 5:00pm and from Sunday at 9:00am prior to the auction.
