The official entry list for the 2006 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (LBVCR) has been published today, with a total of 489 pre-1905 veteran cars entered for the event, including 85 international entries from as far away as China, Australia, South Africa and the United States.

The entry list includes cars from the dawn of motoring. The oldest car on this years run is a 1895 Peugeot Vis-à-vis, which will be the first car across the start line on Sunday 5th November in Hyde Park. There are 36 other examples of 19th century motoring entered for the 2006 LBVCR and while most are powered by the early petrol engine, there are also 15 steam cars and 3 electric cars entered.

“We have seen an increase of interest from veteran car owners for the 2006 LBVCR,” said event director Roger Etcell. “The entry has grown steadily with a 5% increase on two years ago. The biggest increase we’ve seen is in international entries, with 15% more from overseas since last year. We are very pleased to see the LBVCR growing and gaining in popularity since moving to a three day event format in 2004. When you remember that all of the vehicles on the 2006 LBVCR are at least 102 years old, the fact that more owners are deciding to drive their irreplaceable cars on the roads between London and Brighton in November for everyone to see is very encouraging and is an event that shouldn’t be missed by anyone who has an interest in motoring.”

The line up of 489 veteran cars, all pre 1905 vehicles, will participate in the 2006 LBVCR on Sunday 5th November starting in Hyde Park. The first cars leave at 7:07am (sunrise), and travel the 60-miles to Brighton along the A23. The event also includes a special LBVCR auction at Bonhams New Bond Street salerooms on Friday 3rd November and on Saturday 4th Regent Street will be closed to allow over 100 of the veteran cars to be displayed in Central London in the 2006 LBVCR International Concours, with selected vehicles giving demonstration runs around Berkeley Square.

The LBVCR takes place on the first Sunday of every November (2006 event is on 5th November) and commemorates the Emancipation Run of 14 November 1896 which celebrated the passing into law of the Locomotives on the Highway Act, which raised the speed limit for `light locomotives’ from 4 mph to 14 mph and abolished the requirement for these vehicles to be preceded by a man on foot carrying a red flag.
