Worldwide Auctioneers, responsible for the sale of some of the world’s finest collector cars, achieved a record result at the weekend, selling a 1956 DeSoto FireFlite Hemi Convertible for $154,000 at this year’s first auction of a private collection. The Weinberg Collection, encompassing over 100 vintage automobiles and a significant selection of antiques, was auctioned without reserve in Escondido California on April 3rd and 4th, at a total $3.2 million.

High sales went to the DeSoto, a desirable 1954 Buick Skylark Convertible which hammered sold for $106,700 and a stately 1929 Rolls Royce Phantom II Dual Cowl Touring, at $82,500.

Next stop for the Worldwide team is the fifth annual Houston Classic Auction on May 2nd, where collectors and enthusiasts alike look set to be rewarded with a mouth watering array of more than 100 spectacular vintage automobiles.

Among the selection of very special sports racers, select American muscle cars and stately European and American classics is a singular 1960 Scarab Grand Prix Race Car, awesome 1968 Shelby GT500 KR Convertible, magnificent 1933 Duesenberg LaGrande Cowl Phaeton and gorgeous 1951 Ferrari 340 America Berlinetta Coupe. Racing fans will also get a rare chance to see Corvette racing legends Dick Guldstrand and Delmo Johnson reunited with some of the celebrated race cars that contributed to their success on the track, as a selection of iconic Corvette racers go under the hammer.

If that weren’t enough, everyone will be given a further one-off opportunity to get their hands on “Burt’s Bandit”, a 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, as immortalized in the movie Smokey and the Bandit, currently the property of Mr. Burt Reynolds and titled in his name.
