Gooding & Company, the official auction house of the esteemed Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, is thrilled to announce two exceptional collector supercars that will be offered at its upcoming Pebble Beach Auctions. The 1947 Italian Championship-winning 1933 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza and a California-registered 1995 McLaren F1 will proudly drive over Gooding & Company’s auction stage as premier offerings at the Sunday Auction on August 15, 2010, which commences at 6 p.m. at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center. An additional point of excitement includes McLaren’s North American launch of the 2012 MP4-12C with the unveiling taking place at a private Gooding & Company event on Friday evening. The new 12C will also be on display for public viewing on Saturday and Sunday at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Concept Car Lawn.

The 1933 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza and 1995 McLaren F1 join a long list of sparkling consignments for Gooding & Company’s Auctions, including Gil Nickel’s 1951 Ferrari 340 America Spider, a 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France, 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione and the barn discovery 1933 Duesenberg SJ LWB Convertible, all of which are being presented on Saturday. Additional Sunday auction highlights include a 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K, the 1927 Mercedes-Benz S Boattail Speedster, the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta SEFAC Hot Rod, and Stirling Moss’ 1956 Maserati 200 SI, to name a few.

The 1933 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza with coachwork by Brianza
An exceedingly rare and significant Alfa Romeo, this Monza was piloted by a few noteworthy Genovese drivers during the 1930s and 1940s, including the famous Renato Balestrero. In his hands, Chassis 2311218 competed successfully at all the major European racing events, including San Remo, Gran Prix of Bari, Circuito di Senigallia, Circuito di Modena, and Circuito di Voghera, all of which supported Balestrero’s achievement of winning both the 1947 Sport Nazionale and Sport Internazionale Championships with this 8C Monza. In the Monza’s later years of racing, it competed quite successfully in the Mille Miglia twice (1997 and 2001), Laguna Seca (1997, 1998, and 2008), Copperstate 1000, New England 1000, Colorado Grand and the 8C Tour. Notably, this car has an unbroken ownership history from new and has had only three Californian owners since 1954. An Estimate Upon Request consignment, the 8C 2300 Monza is a spectacular and one-of-a-kind addition to Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auctions.

Enthusiasts the world over recognize McLaren’s F1 as a prime example of automotive excellence. The 1995 McLaren F1 car being offered was sold new to Larry Ellison, the co-founder and CEO of Oracle, who is also a major financier of the BMW Oracle Racing team. An elite car by many standards, it is one of a few McLaren supercars registered, titled and certified for use in California. Finished in Magnesium Silver over a black interior, this car is in original factory-delivered form and will arrive at auction complete with the factory-delivered luggage and tools. Gooding & Company’s estimate on this car is between $2.5 – $3.5 Million.
The 2010 Pebble Beach Auctions will be held at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center. Preview days will start on Wednesday August 11th and will continue through Sunday August 15th. The auctions will commence at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 6:00 p.m. (PST) on Sunday.
