Grand Prix Memorabilia on sale at Christie’s

Vintage posters and photographs from Grand Prix competitions dating from as far back as 1908 are to be auctioned at Christie’s this month.

The Vintage Posters sale on Thursday, 12 May will feature thirteen original automotive advertisement posters, including those for several Grand Prix venues including Monaco, Le Mans and Dieppe, with estimates for individual posters starting at only £600. The earliest racing poster can be seen above centre, and is estimated to realize £4,000-6,000.

On Tuesday, 17th May, the Photographs auction also pays tribute to the popular sport, with two photographs taken by Jacques-Henri Lartigue (1894-1986) at the 1912 Grand Prix in Amiens offered. Both gelatin prints are signed, and depict an unidentified driver; they were given to celebrated English photograph Brian Duffy at the time of an Olympus sponsored gathering of photographers at the Hôtel du Cap, Antibes, in 1977. Grand Prix de l’ACF, Amiens, 26 June, 1912 is expected to realize £6,000-8,000, and Grand Prix de l’ACF, Amiens, 1912 is estimated at £3,000-5,000.
