The most successful 1997 McLaren F1 GTR Longtail (Gooding estimate: $5m-$7m) will cross Gooding & Company’s auction stage in Scottsdale. The auction commences at 11 a.m. at Scottsdale Fashion Square on January 17 and 18.

Enthusiasts the world over recognize McLaren’s F1 GTR as a stunning example of racing technology and timeless design. Competition McLarens rarely appear for public sale and 021R is no exception. This car was the first GTR Longtail race winner, with accolades including wins at Hockenheim and Helsinki, as well as several other podium finishes. This car was campaigned by the Works BMW Motorsport Team and raced by star drivers J.J. Lehto and Steve Soper.

David Gooding, President and founder of Gooding & Company: “We have a celebrated history of offering unique, rare to market McLaren cars. During our Pebble Beach Auctions in 2013, Gooding & Company set a world auction record for the McLaren marque with the sale of a 1997 F1 for $8,470,000. We look forward to continuing the tradition of success at our Scottsdale Auctions.”

The GTR Longtail, 021R, is being offered from a significant private collection in its original factory-delivered form with iconic FINA livery. With limited owners from new, this highly sought-after GTR Longtail will arrive at auction having been restored by McLaren and maintained by Lanzante Ltd. This race prepped supercar marks a significant opportunity in today’s market.

Additional high performance factory race and road cars that will be featured during the 2014 Scottsdale Auctions include a 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO (estimate: $1.25m-$1.6m), a 1973 Alpine A110 1800 (estimate: $300k-$400k) and a 1980 BMW M1 (estimate: $400k-$500k), among others.
