This celebrated racer and Renaissance man is the ideal Grand Marshal for the 2005 Bell Lexus Copperstate 1000.
Many will recognize Alain de Cadenet as the host of “Legends of Motorsports” and “Victory by Design” on Speed Channel. With a lifetime of interest in vintage automobiles – including everything from building and racing anything with wheels to writing and reporting on cars and motorcycles – he is the perfect choice for the 2005 Copperstate 1000’s Grand Marshal.
“Alain is the ideal person for the Copperstate 1000 — he is the ultimate gearhead,” states Copperstate Chairman John Leshinski. “Anyone who has seen the in-car video of Alain driving a 330P on a closed country road would switch places with him for that instant. His experience as both a car owner and a driver gives him insight into the world of motorsports that few can match.”
The Copperstate 1000 will be a nice recreational drive for Alain as he has participated in the 24 hours of Le Mans, Formula One, and the World Sports Car Championship. He currently races motorcycles and vintage cars throughout Europe and the United States.
In addition to his automobile background, Alain has many other hobbies and interests. He has worked as a trainee banker and fashion photographer, built replica cars and boats and taught some interesting people to drive including James Coburn, Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins.
Demonstrating that he is a genuine “Renaissance Man” Alain is well versed on the stamps of King George V, the postal history of the UK, and English landscape paintings from the 18th and 19th century. Alain has also written monographs on the history of 35mm cameras, English silver coinage, and Brough Superior motorcycles, and he is currently working on a history of the early US Air Mail.
