New York Rupert Banner, Head of Christies International Motor Cars Department, and Bruce and Genia Wennerstrom, Founders and Co-Chairs of the Greenwich Concours dElegance, jointly announce the first-ever auction of motor cars to be held in association with the Greenwich Concours in Connecticut.
Christies long history and experience in auctioning some of the most significant automobiles ever offered for sale, as well as their unmatched reputation and respect among collectors, made them the logical choice for conducting an auction in association with the Greenwich Concours dElegance, stated the Wennerstroms.
The highlight of the auction will be the David H. Tunick Collection. Mr Tunick was a prominent Greenwich resident and the Collection, featuring American classics and European gran turismos, will provide the backbone of the sale. The auction is to be held at the verdant Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, home of the renowned Greenwich Concours dElegance and located on a peninsula at the head of Greenwich Harbor.
Viewing of the consigned cars begins Friday, June 3, with the auction taking place on Sunday afternoon, June 5. The deadline for additional sale consignments is Friday, April 8.
Sale highlights include a 1913 Simplex Model 50 Victoria Touring (estimate: $350,000-450,000); a 1936 Auburn 852 Supercharged V8 Boattail Speedster (estimate: $125,000-175,000); a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing (estimate: $110,000-140,000); and a 1935 Bugatti Type 57 convertible (estimate: $160,000-180,000 and offered with no reserve).
Rupert Banner, Head of Christies International Motor Car Department, says, We are extremely grateful to Bruce and Genia Wennerstrom for making an auction possible for the first time at this location. Christies is thrilled to be combining the extraordinary Tunick Collection with the world-class Greenwich Concours, which celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year. We are also delighted to be making a donation to AmeriCares, the Concours charitable beneficiary.
