The Worldwide Group, a leading auctioneer of vintage automobiles today announced that they would be selling a significant collection of cars from the Walter B Satterthwaite Estate as part of the 2007 Hilton Head Classic and Sports Car Auction, this coming November 3rd.

The collection includes 36 significant cars including a 1929 Stutz Black Hawk, a 1951 Allard K-1, a very rare 1940 Mercury Convertible Sedan, a 1941 Mercury Convertible Coupe, a 1957 Buick Special Convertible with factory air conditioning, a 1953 Nash-Healey Roadster as well as several Thunderbird Roadsters and many other high quality collectible cars.

Mr. Satterthwaite, a graduate with an advanced degree in water resource management from the University of Pennsylvania, spent his professional life as a geologist and was a very well respected member of his community both personally and professionally. A connoisseur of highly sought after wines and automobiles alike, Mr. Satterthwaite began collecting both with vigor in the 1970’s. His wine cellar is very well known by wine aficionados throughout the country just as his vintage automobile collection is known by many serious car collectors.

“Walt Satterthwaite was not only a long-time client, but a dear friend”, said John Kruse, Partner of The Worldwide group. “I have known him and his family for years and am very familiar with his collection of cars. Several of the cars I personally had the honor of witnessing him purchase. He only looked for important attributes when buying, be it wine or cars and I think this collection personifies that.”

The bulk of the collection is Ford family automobiles including a Lincoln Mark II, a 1947 Lincoln Zephyr V-12 Cabriolet, a 61 Lincoln Continental several Thunderbirds and Cougar convertibles from all years. Other rare Ford cars in the sale include a 1955 Crown Victoria and ’55 Mercury Montclair with the original Sun Valley glass top, a 1963 Mercury Meteor, and a 1963 Monterey Convertible. There are also several other excellent examples of cars including several Mercedes-Benz, a rare Pontiac Tempest GTO Convertible with factory four-speed transmission, Two MG’s including an early TD Roadster and a Ford pick-up truck from 1937.

“Certainly, being asked to handle the collection on behalf of the estate is a tremendous honor for The Worldwide Group,” said Rod Egan, Partner and Chief Auctioneer for the company. “These types of sales are very important and I think we have really shown that The Worldwide Group is up to the task of handling the most significant estate sales. We are very much looking forward to the opportunity to do a tremendous job this November, for Mrs. Satterthwaite.”
