John Green, of Cromwell, CT, recently sent in an email about his 1963 Corvette Split-Window coupe:
I have wanted a Split-Window coupe since I was 11 years old, and it was my dream car since the time my dad worked part time in a Mobil station in Rocky Hill, CT.
When my Dad was working for Stan’s Mobil, he used to let me go to work with him on Saturdays. Stan was the best mechanic in the area, and he had a crew of young college students that wanted to work there because they could work on their high-performance cars when the station was closed.
One Saturday, a college graduate came in with his brand-new 1963 Corvette Split-Window coupe. It was Sebring silver with a dark blue interior. When I first looked at the Corvette, my mouth was wide open in awe of this car that looked like an Apollo spaceship, and the back windows looked like the hatches on the capsule.
The guy saw my reaction to the car and asked me if I wanted a ride. When I sat in the car at 11 years old, it looked so futuristic. I thought the glove box was a TV. Ever since that day, it has been my dream car and I always said to myself that someday I will have a Corvette Split-Window Coupe.
In January of 2008, my son sent me a link to a Corvette advertised on a website. The ad showed this beautiful 1963 Corvette that just blew me away because it was everything I was looking for—- and much more. The car was the right color, it had the right interior, and, to top it off, it was fuel-injected.
The car cost much more than I wanted to spend, but then I saw the pictures and heard the details about how original the car was and how it had 25,000 original miles. Well, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I wired the deposit, and I ended flying out there to finish the deal. I bought the most beautiful 1963 Split-Window coupe you will ever find. In April of 2009, I had the car judged by NCRS and received Top Flight.
