McLaren Mercedes MP4/15 and Simplex, two eras of motorsport
Two cars from each end of the automotive historic timeline have arrived in Amman to showcase a century of motorsport progress.
Currently being exhibited at the stunning Royal Automobile Museum, the 1902 “Simplex” Mercedes is considered as the first real racing car, used by Count Jellinik, whose daughter’s name, Mercedes, became the symbol of this luxury marque.
Close to 100 years later, the McLaren Mercedes MP4/15 is the first ever Formula One car to be exhibited in Jordan and was used by the Finnish two-time world champion, Mika Hakkinen in the 2000 Formula One season.
Both cars have joined the museum for a limited time and have arrived just as Jordan is preparing to host the Kingdom’s biggest sporting event of the year, the Jordan Rally.
Situated at the King Hussein Park, the museum is open six days a week between 10 am and 7 pm and closed Tuesdays.
