LONDON, ENGLAND (October, 27, 2009) − Preeminent international auction house, RM Auctions announced the addition of a new sale in Monaco on 1st May, 2010. Held at the Grimaldi Forum and during the same weekend as the 7th Grand Prix Historique de Monaco, the Sporting Classics of Monaco event will present 80 of the world’s finest motor cars to an elite assemblage of automotive enthusiasts and collectors.
“Since hosting our first European event in 2007, RM has experienced immense growth in the investment-grade segment of the market and rapidly increased its global client base,” said Max Girardo, Managing Director, RM Europe. “In response, the addition of the Monaco sale is the first element of RM’s European expansion strategy.”
On the starting grid for the Sporting Classics of Monaco event is a rare and highly desirable 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Cabriolet Pininfarina, chassis number 3309SA. One of only six short wheelbase examples bodied by Pininfarina, 3309SA was the last example built, and displayed as a factory show car at the Geneva and New York Auto Shows in 1962. In addition to being the only one of its kind fitted with covered headlamps, 3309SA is equipped with additional special features and a factory hardtop.
With a fully documented history and unbroken chain of ownership from new, 3309SA recently benefited from a fresh, no-expense spared, nut and bolt restoration by top tier marque specialists, before enjoying success as an award winner at this year’s famed Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Widely regarded as more exclusive, powerful and luxurious than a SWB California Spider, its offering is set to garner significant attention from collectors around the world.
RM completed its 2009 auction schedule with an $18.2m presentation of the third-annual Automobiles of London event on Wednesday, 28 October, 2009 at Battersea Evolution, London, England.
