Discovery Education, Velocity, Mecum Auctions and XFINITY to take students beyond the classroom to ignite their interest in STEM through a scavenger hunt and behind-the-scenes tour of a live Mecum Auto Auction Students to be featured on Velocity during the Mecum Auto Auction Show

On Friday, April 13, Discovery Education, Velocity, Mecum Auctions and XFINITY will provide Houston Independent School District students and their mentors the opportunity to participate in a scavenger hunt through the Mecum Auto Auction at the Reliant Center and get a behind-the-scenes look at the production of the auction. A unique learning opportunity designed to ignite students’ interest in STEM, the scavenger hunt will feature 12 questions about the science of cars and engines. To kick off the scavenger hunt, Velocity host Dana Mecum will speak to participants about Mecum cars, Mecum Auto Auctions and the importance of STEM education. A production crew will film the students as they conduct the scavenger hunt and produce a feature that will air on Velocity inviting viewers to take the Mecum Challenge. Twenty-five students from five schools in the Houston Independent School District have been selected to participate in the Mecum Challenge.

The Mecum Challenge aims to connect students’ school-acquired skills to real-life situations, inspiring them, much like Google’s Kamau Bobb, to develop a lifelong passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), while also encouraging them to explore STEM careers in the future.
