AUBURN, INDIANA (February 26, 2010) – Collectors of vintage motorcars can look forward to another compelling selection of fine automobiles crossing the stage during The Houston Classic Weekend this spring. Worldwide’s line- up of consignments includes a mouth watering assortment of some of the world’s most iconic motorcars, ranging from as early as 1898 through to the 1970’s.Both the sixth annual Houston Classic Auction and The R.E. Monical Collection Auction will showcase substantial private collections to be offered entirely without reserve, taking the count of exceptional no reserve automobiles consigned to go under the hammer over the weekend to well over 120.
One such consignment is a unique 1934 Rolls Royce Pll Continental Roadster, with one-off coachwork by Thrupp & Maberley. Formerly owned by swashbuckling romantic actor Tyrone Powers, this special motorcar forms part of the Buess Collection and will be offered for sale as part of The Houston Classic Auction, along with its rare and largely original long- term stable mates, at no reserve.
Independent of the Buess and R.E. Monical collections, individual feature cars lined up for The Houston Classic Auction include a spectacular 1960 Maserati Tipo 61 “Birdcage”, just rebuilt by renowned experts Steve Hart Racing, FIA approved and ready to race, a restored and numbers matching 1957 Porsche 356 Super Speedster and a gorgeous 1963 Porsche Carrera 2 Cabriolet, sympathetically restored to its original specifications. For those looking for stately rather than sporty, the fine selection of brass and pre-war classics on offer includes a rare 1914 Packard 4-48 Seven Passenger Touring Phaeton, one of two extant, with original chassis, engine and body, a wonderful 1910 Mitchell Model S Touring, a 1934 Duesenberg SJ Boattail Speedster and a grand 1932 Packard Twin-Six Dual Cowl Sport Phaeton.
Offering a high quality and diverse selection of fabulous motorcars, The Houston Classic Weekend runs from April 29th through May 2nd 2010.
