The chassis #3500323 quoted does not exist, it would appear that the correct chassis number in full must be 198.040.5500323, shown in my copy of the 300 SL register (2007/2008) as Silver with red leather (although the photo here looks Green). Factory delivery on 27 May 1955 to Mercedes-Benz, New York. No owners listed at all in that register. Did Gable also own a 300SL roadster? Not mentioned in his biographies.
