This weekend I made an impromptu drive to Seattle to visit a friend from Kentucky. She just happened to be in the area for a few hours before she headed to Canada.
I scavenged the SCM press fleet for just the right candidate. The cherry-red Hyundai Elantra GT won, equipped 1.8-liter, DOHC, 4-cylinder engine with continuously variable transmission (D-CVVT).
The visit itself was as pleasant as expected. The Hyundai, by contrast, took me completely by surprise. After a six-plus hour Read More
When my father, Publisher Keith Martin, mentioned he was traveling to London on a last-minute trip, I didn’t think he was going to take my joke of me tagging along seriously.
However, I soon found myself following my Dad onto an airliner. We were scheduled to attend a special 25th anniversary dinner with Bonhams at their London headquarters.
Thanks to a direct flight from Seattle, we arrived at Heathrow just in time for tea. Our hotel Read More
It was one of those perfect summer days in Oregon: 80 degrees, blue sky, with the rumble of vintage cars racing in the air. Portland International Raceway hosted the annual Historic Races this past weekend. With a hotdog in one hand and a Coke in the other, I spent the early afternoon kicking tires in the pits and the classic car corrals.
Since I was a little girl, I’ve come to PIR this weekend each year to watch my Read More

Well, I’m back home in Oregon after a whirlwind week in Paris, busily writing down my memories as I recover from jet-lag, trying to keep my daily routine at bay for as long as possible. Here’s a quick summation of my second day.
Sports Car Market holds a reception at Retromobile every year, usually has 40 to 50 subscribers in attendance. It was double this last night. With over a 100 SCMer’s plus a few guests, this reception was one for the blogs – and really, the free wine and food had nothing to do with it! By the time the reception started at 5:30 (17:30 for you Europeans) there was a long line of people checking in.
The event was sponsored Read More
It is official — my father, Publisher Keith Martin, needs an intervention. He is on his way to becoming the cat hoarder lady of the car world.
Two weeks ago he accidently bought an Alfetta, an unloved 1978 Alfa Romeo. One week ago a 1958 Sprint 750F Giulietta joined our garage. This weekend, he posted on Facebook that he was interested in purchasing a BMW Shark (6-series) to use as an everyday driver.
It’s that time of the year again—the great migration to Monterey, California. The excitement and energy is in the air. People are detailing their beloved Duesenbergs, researching the multi-million-dollar cars that will be crossing the block and trying to predict who will win the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. People wait all year for this event, and it never disappoints. It’s an entire week where reality ceases to exist.
The one downside to Monterey Car Week is leaving when it’s over. Read More
Here is a lesson that I believe everyone will find valuable at some point in their life: If you go out of town and your younger sister likes cars and happens to blog for Sports Car Market, don’t leave your keys on the kitchen counter—especially if it’s keys to your 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS, with 6.2-liter 433-hp LS3, in Transformers Edition “Bumblebee” yellow. What was supposed to be a quick drive around the block in my brother Tyler’s Read More
This weekend I took a break from the car world and stepped into a world I quite enjoy, yet rarely visit—motorcycles.
