It’s been a car-filled few weeks for the ACC crew. First, we took a new Jeep to Reno, and then we drove to Monterey for the annual Monterey car auctions, the Pebble Beach Concours, and this year’s vintage races. ACC Associate Editor Chad Tyson and I were on the road a total of 12 days, and in that time, we probably looked at over 5,000 different cars. Maybe even more — everything from flamed ’57 Chevys in Reno to Tuckers and L88 Corvettes in Monterey. Car guy heaven.
But the biggest news were this year’s auction totals. In those same 12 days, there were seven auctions spread out across the two locations, and those sales sold more than 1,200 cars for a grand total of over $322m. Events in the same locations last year sold $264m. That’s a big jump.
The car carriers have now all left Reno and Monterey, and ACC’s staff is all back at HQ crunching the data. We’re putting together the next issue of the magazine now, and it’ll include an in-depth look at what went on this summer and what the huge August numbers mean to the market as a whole. Stay tuned.
As for me, I’m glad to be home. Seeing all those cars just motivated me to finish up the resto on my ’72 Chevy K10 pickup — and four-wheeling in our tester 2014 Jeep outside of Carson City didn’t help, either.
