Every January, nearly 3,000 collector cars ship out to sunny Arizona, where they cross high-profile auction blocks in six different locations in the Scottsdale area. The cars draw in thousands of bidders and spectators, and they typically bring in some hefty sales totals.

These sales have become a great barometer of the new year’s market, and if you’re an American car lover, it’s the place to be — especially if you’re on the hunt for a Boss 429, Shelby GT350, Chevelle LS6, or Corvette L88. Last year saw $291m in sales, and this week, all eyes are on the desert to see what’s going to happen as 2016’s market continues to rumble to life.

ACC’s staff and writers are already on site, and we’ll be all over the place this week — from Silver out in Fort McDowell to RM at the Biltmore.

This morning is ACC’s annual Insider’s Seminar, held at Barrett-Jackson. Colin Comer, John L. Stein, Ken Lingenfelter and I will discuss what cars we think will be hot items in the future American collector car market. The seminar runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and admission is free. Come join us if you’re in the area. Learn more here.

I’ll also be a part of the SCM panel at the Gooding auction alongside Donald Osborne, Steve Serio, and Carl Bomstead on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. We’ll be talking about the wider market and trends for the year 2020. Learn more about it and sign up here.

We’ll be covering all the events from Scottsdale (and Mecum Kissimmee, which just concluded) in the next issue of ACC, which will be out in February.

See you in Arizona!
