1973 Datsun 240Z

Chassis Number: HLS30136576

Shaped by Nissan executive Yutaka Katayama’s deep understanding of what Americans desired in a sports car, the Datsun 240Z was an overnight sensation on its arrival in the United States in January 1970. Its combination of good looks, 6-cylinder power and capable handling, coupled with an affordable price, put it miles ahead of its British, Italian and German competition, while changing American perceptions of the Japanese auto industry. It was a car to be reckoned with on the track, as well, dominating the Sports Car Club of America’s C-Production category. The 240Z launched a line of performance cars that continues today, with the exhilarating, 2025-model 400-hp Z.

This wonderfully presented orange example is the product of a comprehensive bare-metal restoration, completed to a high level; the seller reports that the restoration cost approximately $80,000, but records are currently unavailable. Finished in orange over black vinyl interior, the car is in overall great condition both aesthetically and mechanically. The vehicle shows 14,011 miles on the odometer at the time of photography.

This example is fitted with an air-conditioning system, making this a terrific example for long drives as well as vintage rallies. Additionally, this Z would be finely suited to competing on the show field due to its well-presented restoration to factory specs. Other features include a pair of Coco mats as well as an upgraded speaker system fitted tightly in the rear trunk and tucked out of the way. The 240Z is fitted with period-appropriate alloy wheels properly completing its excellent look. Featuring lovely straight and solid bodywork with stunning paintwork, this is a fine example of the Z with a desirable 4-speed manual transmission. Surely an excellent opportunity to obtain a stunning example of the marque.
