We’re on the home stretch of our epic road trip in our 35-year-old Alfa S4 Spider, having just participated in the Alfa Romeo Owners Club national convention in Ogden, Utah.

While I was there, I gave a presentation about SCM and the way the world of car collecting has changed in the past 38 years.

We had an enjoyable side trip to the visitor center at the Golden Spike National Historical Park in Promontory, where the railroads coming from east and west were joined. The park had two working steam engines on display.

    My wife and I divide our time between the Long Beach Peninsula in Washington State and St George, Utah. Last Wednesday around 9:15am Mountain Time I was heading east on Interstate 86 in Southern Idaho heading back home (taking the long way). Lo and behold, I saw a red Alfa coming up in my rear view mirror (I was towing a trailer in the slow lane). It passed me at 80mph (which was the speed limit) with what looked like Keith navigating/dozing in the passenger seat. My suspicions were confirmed when I saw the Oregon license plate. They soon left me in the dust. I-86 is not the best route to Ogden, Utah (typically, travelers between Portland and Ogden/Salt Lake City use I-84) where the big Alfa shindig was so I wondered what they were up to. I soon found out when I saw them exit at Raft River, turn left under the freeway, and presumably head west to reconnect with I-84 to Ogden. I look forward to Keith’s Blog every Tuesday so the crossing of our paths was very exciting. What a small world.

      Wow, how amazing! Thanks for posting this. And noting we were going the legal limit. :-). I wasn’t dozing I was meditating about my next column!
