ATLANTA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Aug. 1, 2006–Porsche Cars North
America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars
and Cayenne SUVs in the United States and Canada, today announced a
sales record for the month of July in the United States. In the U.S.,
Porsche sold 3,202 new cars this past month, an increase of 14 percent
compared to the previous July when sales were 2,804. The results
pushed Porsche’s year-to-date sales total in 2006 to 21,803, up 15
percent from last year’s seven-month total of 18,930.
July 31 marked the end of Porsche’s fiscal year 05/06. PCNA closed
the 2006 fiscal year with total North American sales of 36,669 new
cars, an increase of 7 percent over the previous fiscal year when
sales were 33,974. The total is the best fiscal sales result in the
history of Porsche in North America. By model, Porsche sold 10,701 of
its Boxsters/Cayman series (up 65 percent), 12,534 911s (up 18
percent), and 13,217 Cayennes (down 27 percent).
“Our past fiscal year has seen monthly sales records for 6 of the
past 12 month, a noteworthy feat considering the state of flux in the
automotive industry today,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, PCNA President
and CEO. “While there are many factors that contribute to a successful
fiscal year and our strong sales performance, the most significant
factor has been the introduction of the Cayenne back in 2003 that has
helped boost our sales more than 50 percent in the past three years.”
Porsche’s July’s results in the U.S. were led by the continued
strength of the Porsche 911 series that recorded sales of 1,080 an
increase of 43 percent when sales were 755. July also saw increases in
the Boxster/Cayman series with combined sales of 1,182, an increase of
72 percent in July.
In addition, dealers sold 503 Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned
cars in July versus 490 for the same period last year.
